Resources for New A-level Maths Spec
Neil, May 24, 2017

A collection of resources to help with teaching the new A-level Maths specification. References link to the OCR 2017 A-Level specification. Some of these applets that where designed to be used for whole class presentation work better if downloaded and ran through the GeoGebra program rather than the web based app. Many work well with iPads and can be explored by students independently.

Frequency Polygons, Cumulative Frequency and Box Plots (2.02a)

Experiment with changing the shape of the frequency polygon by dragging the data points.
Ask students to predict the effect of changing the shape of the frequency polygon on the cumulative frequency curve and box plot.
Introducing the Normal Distribution using Hand-span (2.04e, 2.04f, 2.04g)
This applet can be used to help introduce to the normal distribution by looking at hand span in the context of key board sizes.
It can then be used to explain transforming to a standardized distribution and as a basis to examine assumptions for modeling using a normal distribution.
A full explanation is given of how this applet can be used here;
http://geogebraintheclassroom.blogspot.co.uk/2015/11/introducing-normal-distribution-part-1.html
The second applet provides some actual data from a class I used this with which may be useful.
