O PROBLEMA DE JOSEPHUS
Flavius Josephus foi um judeu que enfrentou as tropas romanas em 67 quando invadiram Yodfat. Ele se tornou historiador, talvez tenha escrito essa história: Josephus e quarenta homens esconderam-se dos romanos em uma caverna. Com a descoberta do esconderijo, preferiram o suicídio coletivo à captura pelos romanos. Josephus sugeriu colocarem-se em círculo e de três em três uma pessoa seria morta, até que houvesse só uma pessoa no final que se suicidaria; mas, no fim, restando apenas Josephus e mais um homem, decidiram se entregar aos romanos.
