UCSS Math I 5.4.2 Example 3

Construct square [math]JKLM[/math] inscribed in circle [math]Q[/math] with the radius equal to one-half the length of [math]\overline{JL}[/math].

[list=1] [*]Construct circle [math]Q[/math]. Bisect the length of [math]\overline{JL}[/math]. Use this length as the radius for circle [math]Q[/math]. [*]Label a point on the circle point [math]J[/math]. [*]Construct the diameter of the circle. Label the second point of intersection [math]L[/math]. [*]Construct the perpendicular bisector of [math]\overline{JL}[/math]. Extend the bisector so it intersects the circle in two places. Label the points of intersection [math]K[/math] and [math]M[/math]. [*]Construct the sides of the square. Do not erase any of your markings. Quadrilateral [math]JKLM[/math] is a square inscribed in circle [math]Q[/math].
