Euler's Elegant Example

This applet illustrates Euler's Elegant Example: an infinite family of cubic equations that pass through nine fixed points. The equation is[br][math]y^3 - y = c*(x^3 - x)[/math] where [math]c[/math] is a parameter that may be any real number.
Euler's Elegant Example
In this applet, you can set particular values of [math]c[/math] using the slider control, or click on the play icon in the lower-left corner and observe the curve as [math]c[/math] cycles through values between −4 and +4.
