Function Transformations

The purpose of this activity is to allow you to investigate the effects of certain transformations on a function. The transformations that we are investigating include: [list] [*]Horizontal Translation (also known as Horizontal Shift) [*]Vertical Translation (also known as Vertical Shift) [*]Vertical Stretch [*]Vertical Shrink [*]Reflection over the x-axis [/list] Use the sliders in the green box to adjust the values of a, w, and k. The gray graph is the graph of the parent function, [math]y=f(x)[/math]. The red graph is the graph of the transformed function, [math]y = a \cdot f(x + w) + k[/math]. To work with a different function, click the "Change Parent Function" button, and then click on the name of the function that you would like to use.
