Linear Function f(x) = s_o a_o(s_i a_i x - h) + k

A linear function gives a graph of a straight line. The format here is written to allow the students to evaluate reflections about the x- or y-axis and more. The 'h-slider' is used for a horizontal translation, and the 'k-slider' is used for a vertical translation. The '[math]a_o[/math] & [math]a_i[/math]-sliders' control the slope of the line. The '[math]s_o[/math]-slider' changes the sign that reflects the graph across the x-axis. The '[math]s_i[/math]-slider' changes the sign that reflects the graph across the y-axis. The check boxes will turn on up to 3 points for you to calculate the slope of the line. The slope check box will allow you to check your slope. The y=x check box will graph the parent curve with the current line. The full linear equation is displayed at all times.

This applet can be used by teachers in a demonstration mode in the classroom or teachers can have students load it on their own computers with a worksheet to be complete for a grade.
