G-CO.12 Construction #7 Constructing a line parallel to a given line through a point not on the line

Geometric Constructions with a straightedge and a compass
Given: Line AB, point M, not on the line.[br]Construct Line MN, such that line AB [math]||[/math]line MN[br][br]Steps[br]1. Use a straightedge to draw line AM.[br]2. Place your compass point at A and draw an arc so that it intersects both lines AM and AB at points C and D.[br]3. Using the same compass measurement as step 2, place your compass on point M and draw an identical arc so that it intersects line AM at E.[br]4. Place your compass at point C and set the measurement to draw an arc at point D.[br]5. Using the same compass measurement as step 5, place your compass at point E and draw an arc so that it intersects the arc in step 3 at point N.[br]6. Use a straightedge to draw line MN.[br]7. Line AB [math]||[/math]line MN
