In this lesson plan the students can explore some types of quadrilaterals and their properties.

Square[/*]
Rectangle[/*]
Parallelogram[/*]
Rhombus / Rhomb[/*]
Kite / Deltoid[/*]
(Isosceles) Trapezoid[/*]
Irregular Quadrilateral[/*]
The students can identify different types of quadrilaterals and describe their properties.
Lesson Objectives[br]The students[br]

are able to identify and assign the different quadrilaterals.[/*]
are able to name the different quadrilaterals.[br][/*]
know the properties (sides, angles, symmetry, diagonal) of the various quadrilaterals.[/*]
[br]Assessments[br]The learning success can be checked with a worksheet, on which various quadrilaterals are shown and some questions concerning the properties of quadrilaterals have to be answered.[br]
These teaching methods and activities are planned for the students: [br](35 min) At the beginning of the lesson, the students work in pairs and they can explore the quadrilaterals[br]dynamically on the applet. Altogether there are 6 applets to each quadrilateral (square, rectangle, rhombus, kite, parallelogram, trapezoid). The students can drag the points and change the shape of the quadrilaterl they have to explore the special properties. Below the applet they have to find the correct statements and tick these. [br]To see if the answeres are right, the students can click on the [button_small]Check[/button_small] button at the end of the worksheet. [br]Then the next rectangle can be edited.[br]
(10-15 min) Afterwards the properties of the quadrilaterals are summarized in class and the isosceles trapezoid as well as the irregular quadrilateral are discussed together.
In the next lesson the learning outcome can be checked with a worksheet, on which various [br]quadrilaterals are shown and some questions concerning the properties of the different quadrilaterals have to be answered.
These technical equipment, software, media and materials are required to carry out this teaching sequence:[br]For the first part of the lesson, the students need tablets or computers (computer room). Alternatively, the properties of the quadrilaterals can be discovered together in class.[br]In the second part the students need a worksheet with an overview of all quadrilaterals.
In this lesson the properties of various quadrilaterals should be identified and verified by using the GeoGebra worksheets. [br]For this lesson, the students do not need any prior knowledge about GeoGebra, although it certainly has[br]advantages when they have worked with such worksheets before. Otherwise the students have to be explained exactly how they get to the worksheets and how they can switch between them.[br]To work with those worksheets the laptops need an internet connection. Otherwise, the materials could also be used offline, but that is elaborate.
