G.GCO.8 Angle Relationships

Use this worksheet to investigate angle relationships formed when two non-parallel lines are cut by a transversal.
1) Corresponding Angles
Corresponding Angles - the angles which occupy the same relative position at each intersection where a straight line crosses two others. [br]In this diagram:[br][math]\angle[/math]AEG and [math]\angle[/math]CFG are corresponding (green angles)[br][math]\angle[/math]AEH and [math]\angle[/math]CFH are corresponding (orange angles)[br][math]\angle[/math]BEG and [math]\angle[/math]DFE are corresponding (purple angles)[br][math]\angle[/math]BEF and [math]\angle[/math]DFH are corresponding (blue angles)[br]
2) Alternate Interior Angles
[b]Alternate Interior Angles[/b] are a pair of [b]angles[/b] on the inner side of each of those two lines but on opposite sides of the transversal.[br][math]\angle[/math]AEF and [math]\angle[/math]DFE are alternate interior angles[br][math]\angle[/math]BEF and [math]\angle[/math]CFE are alternate interior angles
3) Alternate Exterior Angles
[b]Alternate Exterior Angles[/b] are a pair of [b]angles[/b] on the outer side of each of those two lines but on opposite sides of the transversal.[br][math]\angle[/math]GEA and [math]\angle[/math]HFD are Alternate Exterior Angles[br][math]\angle[/math]BEG and [math]\angle[/math]HFC are Alternate Exterior Angles
4) Consecutive Interior (Same-Side Interior) Angles
[b]Consecutive interior angles[/b] are the pairs of [b]angles[/b] that are between two lines and on the same side of the line cutting through the two lines.[br][math]\angle[/math]AEF and [math]\angle[/math]CFE are Consecutive Interior Angles[br][math]\angle[/math]BEF and [math]\angle[/math]DFE are Consecutive Interior Angles
5) Consecutive Exterior Angles (Same-Side Exterior)
[b]Consecutive exterior angles[/b] are [b]exterior angles[/b] that lie on the same side of the transversal.[br][math]\angle[/math]AEG and [math]\angle[/math]CFH are Consecutive Exterior[br][math]\angle[/math]GEB and [math]\angle[/math]DFH are Consecutive Exterior
Answer these:
If two non-parallel lines are cut by a transversal:[br][br]1. Are corresponding angles congruent (have the same measure)?[br]2. Are alternate interior angles congruent?[br]3. Are alternate exterior angles congruent?[br]4. Are vertical angles congruent?[br]5. Are same-side interior angles supplementary (sum to 180 degrees)?[br]6. Are same-side exterior angles supplementary?
