Quadrilateral 1

Follow all steps in order - do not skip a step. When you have completed all steps, you will know what special type of quadrilateral this is and all characteristics of this specific type of quadrilateral. Even if you think you already know what this is, complete every step and be sure you fully understand all of its characteristics.

Step 1: Display the diagonals of the quadrilateral – segments g and h (click the button next to them on the left side of the image). Display point E. Display segments i, j, k, and l. Using this information now on the image, what do you know about point E? Move point A, is point E still what you think it is? Move point C, is point E still what you think it is? What can you conclude about the diagonals of this type of quadrilateral? Reset the image (click the circular arrows at the upper right side of the canvas). Step 2: Display all four interior angles of the quadrilateral (click the button next to them on the left side of the image). What do you notice about the opposite angles? Move point A, besides the actual values of the angles, what else, if anything, changed? Move point C, besides the actual values of the angles, what else, if anything, changed? What can you conclude about the pairs of opposite angles of this type of quadrilateral? Reset the image (click the circular arrows at the upper right side of the canvas). Step 3: Display the measure of all four sides of the quadrilateral (for each side, select the side and then use a tool to display the measure of the side). What do you notice about the opposite sides? Move point A, besides the actual values of the sides, what else, if anything, changed? Move point C, besides the actual values of the sides, what else, if anything, changed? What can you conclude about the pairs of opposite sides of this type of quadrilateral? Reset the image (click the circular arrows at the upper right side of the canvas). Step 2: Display all four slopes of the sides of the quadrilateral (click the button next to them on the left side of the image). What do you notice about the opposite slopes? Move point A, besides the actual values of the slopes, what else, if anything, changed? Move point C, besides the actual values of the slopes, what else, if anything, changed? What can you conclude about the opposite slopes of sides of this type of quadrilateral? What is a specific name for this quadrilateral? List everything you now know about this specific type of quadrilateral.
