12. Introducing Transformations

A [i]transformation [/i]is a way of moving or changing a figure. There are three types of basic transformations that preserve the size and shape of the figure. These three, [i]reflections, rotations, [/i]and [i]translations, [/i]are called [i]isometries[/i]. Isometries flip, turn, or slide a figure but never bend or distort it. In this activity, you'll experiment with basic isometries by transforming a flag-shaped polygon. (You'll use this shape because it's easy to keep track of where it's pointing.)
Translations
