Join us for an interactive workshop on February 19th designed for STEM educators seeking to enhance their teaching of mathematics through the innovative use of GeoGebra. GeoGebra is a dynamic mathematics software that integrates geometry, algebra, spreadsheets, graphing, statistics, and calculus. In this workshop, we will explore how to leverage GeoGebra to create engaging and effective learning experiences in your STEM classroom.[br]GeoGebra is open-source and free software for learning and teaching mathematics, used from early school grades through colleges and universities. Bio
Libo Valencia is a mathematics teacher at Horace Greeley High School in Chappaqua, NY. He is an adjunct lecturer at his alma mater CUNY Lehman College and also enjoys teaching at the Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP) at Mercy College. With fifteen years of experience, Libo is a passionate educator who strongly believes that understanding mathematics can help all students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills that can be utilized beyond the classroom. Libo is known for his constant use of different technologies to engage his students by bringing math concepts to life. As a mathematics educator, Libo has taught a wide range of subjects, from remedial algebra classes to upper-level calculus. He is committed to helping spread the joy of mathematics through MathPlay, Libo wholeheartedly believes that facilitating #MathPlay helps students develop a deeper appreciation for math and empowers them to better understand it. He has presented and facilitated workshops related to Math Play and his professional experiences for educators in the United States and the United Kingdom. Bio
Katarzyna Winkowska-Nowak is a Polish mathematician who shares her life between Poland and Florida.[br][br]Katarzyna has a rigorous mathematical education both from Warsaw University in Poland and from Florida Atlantic Universty at Boca Raton Florida. She is interested in the application of mathematics into social sciences. Her main interests are application of complex systems into modeling human behavior.[br][br]Beside her scientific interest she is engaged in improving mathematics education. She works on developing materials for teaching mathematics for social scientists, college students and for teachers.[br][br]Katarzyna was recognized by Ashoka Foundation by getting Ashoka Fellowship award as an Social Entrepreneur in 2011. She created several institutions: ROSE Teachers Association for Innovative Teaching, AKCES Foundation, and Polish Chapter of International GeoGebra Institute. She organizes conferences, workshops and seminars on mathematics and innovative education.
