Medians
A median is a segment from the midpoint of a side to the opposite vertex. Drag the vertices of the triangle below to explore the median.
All three medians meet at a point. The point of concurrency for the medians is called the centroid. Can the centroid be outside the triangle? If so, when?
Using the triangle above, find the distance of each median and then the segment from each vertex to the centroid. Compare these distances by dividing the vertex to centroid segment and the whole median. What did you find?
