Topic
Area of plane figures.
Learning Outcomes
The students know the characteristics of different plane figures,[br]they understand the derivations of the area formulas and can also apply them.[br]
Lesson Objectives and Assessment
Objectives

The students know the properties of right-angled triangles.[/*]
The students know the properties of special quadrilaterals: square, rectangle, parallelogram, rhombus, trapezoid and kite.[/*]
The students understand the derivation of the area formulas of the plane figures (right-angled triangle, square, rectangle, parallelogram, rhombus, trapezoid and kite).[/*]
The pupils can explain the derivations and work with them independently.[/*]
The pupils can apply the area formulas and solve problems using this formulas.[br][br][/*]
Assessment[br]Teacher: [br]The presentation and the handout of each group can be evaluated.[br]The teacher can also have a look on the GeoGebra worksheets the groups have worked on in the elaboration part of the lesson.[br]Further tasks on this topic can be given and evaluated. [br][br]Studets:[br]Since there is automatic feedback, students can check their results themselves. [br]In this way the students can see their learning success immediately.
Teaching Strategies
Beginning of the sequence:[br]At the beginning of the lesson the characteristics of various plane figures (triangle, parallelogram, rhombus, trapezoid, kite) are discussed and repeated.[br]Groups are formed and a plane figure is assigned to each group. [br](group 1: "quatrilateral", group 2: "parallelogram and rhombus", group 3: "trapezoid", [br]group 4: "kite", group 5: "triangle")[br]In these groups the students have to find characteristics of the respective figures using their mathematics book or the internet. They have to create a poster and a handout which summarize the properties, the area formula and its derivation.[br]This handout needs to be given to the teacher at the end of the lesson. The teacher checks if the information on this worksheets are right and merges them into one handout.[br][br]In the next lesson each group should give a short presentation and introduce their figure (about 3-5 minutes). [br]Each member of the group should be involved in this presentation.[br]In the end the pupils will receive a copy with a summary of all handouts.[br][br]Use of GeoGebra materials:[br]The students use GeoGebra applets (chapter: Properties of flat figures) to playfully repeat the porperties of different plane figures.[br]Subsequently, the area formulas of various plane figures are discussed together and repeated. [br]The students then use GeoGebra applets (chapter 4-7) to derive the area formulas of the planar figures or to understand the derivation of these formulas.[br][br]End of sequence:[br]At the end of the sequence the students can practice the elaborated knowledge. Different tasks from the mathematics book should be solved independently.[br]
Technology Integration
In this lesson plan technology is used for researching and working with GeoGebra worksheets.[br][br]In the case of problems with the computers of the students, the projector can be used and the teacher elaborates the worksheets with the whole class.

May I introduce the Plane Figures to you?

Introduction
Plane figures can be found everywhere in our everyday life. In this GeoGebra Book some of these plane figures are presented.[br]You will learn about the properties of the figures: triangle, parallelogram, rhombus and many more. [br]Additionally you will learn about their area formulas and how to deduce them using GeoGebra Worksheets. You will of course also find exercise materials in this GeoGebra Book.[br][br]This Book gives you the opportunity to better understand and apply the mathematical background.[br][br]Have fun :)[br]
