On the south wall of the Shir Dor madrassa overlapping squares create cross like forms filled by kufic writing. The tradition to decorate walls this way is called bana'i.
In the little squares between the crosses you can read [i]Allah akhbar[/i] lezen. In the crosses you can read ya Rahman ([i]the merciful[/i]) en ya Rahim ([i]the most compassionate[/i]), two of the names van Allah. [br]Together they form the pattern beneath.
