The [url=https://orientalarchitecture.com/sid/1626/uzbekistan/bukhara/bukhara-ark-fortress]fortress[/url] (the 'Ark") of Bukhara is a wide citadel of 3ha in the northwest of the old town.[br]It is built half the first millenium and remainen the prominent residence of the rulers of Bukhara until 1920, when it was severely damaged by Russian air attacks.[br]A big part was destroyed, some parts were restored or rebuilt giving a limited impression of the luxury life of the Manghietic emirs, the last residents of the fortress.
The court mosque has got an open iwan with a wooden ceiling, sustained by wooden columns.[br]The capitals of these columns are decorated as muqarnas, as the capitals of the columns in the interior part of the mosque. These muqarnas are designed with connected stars on different layers.
