As you can see, at their core ANNs are just mathematical functions made up of a web of run-of-the-mill mathematical parts (addition, multiplication, and exponentiation). They have found a home for performing classifications in a large variety of contexts. If we see things in AI tools that are unsettling or unnerving, it's simply a reflection of ourselves, and not a result of any maliciousness in the computer.
