Topic
Discover direct proportional ralations and learn how to represent it graphically.
Learning Outcomes
The students are able to describe direct proportional relations, represent it in different ways and perform calculations within this topic.[br]
Lesson Objectives and Assessment
Lesson Objectives

Students know what direct proportional relation means.[br][/*]
Students are able to solve problems with direct proportional relations by using the rule of three.[/*]
Students are able to create a value table for direct proportional relations.[/*]
Students are able to graph direct proportional relations.[/*]
Students know that a direct proportional relation equals an increasing line in a diagram. [/*]
Students are able to solve similar examples on the topic direct proprotional relations.[/*]
Students are able to decide whether a diagram represents direct proportional relation or not.[/*]
Students can draw a diagram with a value table. [/*]
Assessments[br]

self control: the worksheets give automatic feedback [/*]
teacher review: give similar tasks as homework and review them[/*]
Teaching Strategies
In the first part of this lessons the teacher discusses the applet Buying Chocolate Bars in plenary. Therefore the applet is shown on the projector. In this applet various tasks should be solved and the graph can be shown by activating the check box.[br]On the blackboard a table presenting the amount of chocolate bars and the price should be elaborated.[br]In this part of the lesson the teacher should give the written definition of direct proportionality.[br]Hint: The first part is a repetition of direct proportional relations which has already been subject matter in the 5th grade.[br][br]In the second part the students get the worksheets: Buying Chocolate Bars, A Visit to the Cinema, Euro - English Pounds (Currency Converter) and Direct Proportional Relation - Yes or No?. Those worksheets should be solved in groups of two using a laptop, computer or tablet. [br]You should plan about 30 minutes for this part of the lesson. [br][br]During the third part the students should solve a few problems out of their mathematics book. It is also possible to give some tasks for homework to practise the subject matter.[br][br]In the end of the lessons the students repeat all the new learned matter and summarise it together.[br][br]Hint: If necessary the last part can easily be postponed to the next lesson.[br]
How to use the included worksheets
Buying Chocolate Bars[br]The teacher shows this applet onto a screen and reads the task aloud.[br]Now all students try to find a solution. Therefore the slider can be moved to the correct value. [br]The answer should be tipped into the input box. After confirming it by pressing the enter key you will get an immediate response, if the result is right or wrong.[br]Additionally, a table presenting the amount of chocolate bars and the price should be elaborated on the blackboard.[br]If you want to get a new task you need to press the [button_small]New Task [/button_small] button.[br]Finally you can show the graph of this direct proportional relation.[br][br]This applet should help the students to get to know the definition of direct proportional relations. [br]In this part of the lesson the teacher should also give a definition of direct proportionality.[br]
Buying Chocolate Bars
A Visit to the Cinema[br]The students work in pairs using a laptop, computer or tablet. [br]This worksheet includes the task, an applet and some additional questions.[br]First the students need to enter the correct values into the input box. Next the orange points have to be placed on the right position in the coordinate system. As soon as the students have finished the task they can tick Check to show the correct solutions.[br]To solve the tasks some students may need pen and paper to do auxiliary calculations.[br][br]To see if the answeres of the multiple choice questions are right, the students can click on the [button_small]Check[/button_small] button at the end of the worksheet.
Euro - English Pounds (Currency Converter)[br]The students should work in pairs using a laptop, computer or tablet.[br]The worksheet includes the task, an applet and some additional questions.[br]First of all the students need to replace the zeros in the table with random Euro amounts and convert the amount into English Pounds. To see if the calculations are correct the students can tick Show line.[br]Then three additional questions need to be answered.[br]For the calculations the students may need pen and paper. [br]Again at the end of the worksheet there is a [button_small]Check[/button_small] button that shows the correct answeres.[br][br]Hint: In this worksheet the current exchange rate from April 3rd 2017 is used. On this occasion the students could be asked, why exchange rates change and they can search the current exchange rate.
Technology Integration
There is hardly any knowledge required to use this worksheets in classroom.[br]To make all tasks clear for everyone, the teacher can explain what needs to be done in each worksheet before the students use them. [br]It is important to show them how they can find the worksheets and how they get to the next one (arrows in the titlebar next to the number of the chapter).[br] [br]Another important thing is a good working Internet connection. [br]If necessary the worksheets can also be used offline. Therefore you can download the worksheet and save them on the students devices.[br][br][br]

Buying Chocolate Bars

Set the sliders to the required amount of chocolate bars and answer the question![br]You can also show or hide the graph.[br][br]Use the [button_small]New Task[/button_small] button and solve 10 different tasks!
