Function Transformations

The purpose of this activity is to allow you to investigate the effects of certain transformations on a function.[br]The transformations that we are investigating include:[br][list][br][*]Horizontal Translation (also known as Horizontal Shift)[br][*]Vertical Translation (also known as Vertical Shift)[br][*]Vertical Stretch[br][*]Vertical Shrink[br][*]Reflection over the x-axis[br][/list][br][br]Use the sliders in the green box to adjust the values of a, w, and k.[br]The gray graph is the graph of the parent function, [math]y=f(x)[/math]. The red graph is the graph of the transformed function, [math]y = a \cdot f(x + w) + k[/math].[br]To work with a different function, click the "Change Parent Function" button, and then click on the name of the function that you would like to use.
