Creating perpendicular lines

How can we
Create a perpendicular line that goes through point A by rotating our original line?[br]Discuss with your partners and table groups
2.) So the line was rotated by 90 degrees around point A Now..
In the graph above how do the slopes compare?
Now lets create another line parallel to the original and see what relationships they have. With the slopes and with the perpendicular line.
3.) Predict
How do you think the slopes will compare and how will the perpendicular lines slope compare?[br][br][br]At what angle will it intersect the parallel lines?
Create a parallel line and then measure the angle of intersection
How do the lines compare?
Lets look at our parallel lines and perpendicular line
Discusss with our groups and our elbow partners[br][br]How do the slopes compare?[br][br]How could we find the distance between the two parallel lines?
In the Image above
So I created a parallel line that would always be parallel and I measured the distance AF
Is?
Is that distance the shortest distance bewteen this set of parallel lines? [br][br]Discuss[br][br] Why is it?
How could you calculate the distance between the two lines without using geogebra to measure?
So discuss and then have a class discussion along with the teacher.[br][br]Explain how it could be done![br][br]Now is there more than one method?
In the problem above
Find the distance between the parallel lines.[br][br] Explain how you did this and show your method.[br][br]Now show another method that is similar but different [br][br]Explain how they are the same method.[br]
Use either the distance formula or the pythagorean theorem to work all of these and explain how to use the distance formula and the pythagorean theorem to work these.
Discuss
With your groups discuss which of these method you would rather use and is there a method you would choose depending on the problem.
