Sampling Distribution of the Mean (Right Skewed)

This applet illustrates the process of generating a distribution of sample means by repeatedly drawing random samples of size [math]n[/math] with replacement, calculating the sample means, and graphing the sample means using a histogram.[br][br]Start by clicking on the Reset button, then run the animation by clicking Start Animation. One can vary the value of the sample size to explore the effect it has on the distribution of sample means. The speed of the animation can be controlled using the Speed slider.[br][br]The left panel shows the age distribution of students enrolled at a community college for a particular semester with mean [math]\mu=25.28[/math] and standard deviation [math]\sigma=8.95[/math]. The left panel also shows a dotplot of the ages of college students for a sample of size [math]n[/math], the yellow dot is the corresponding sample mean, and the red X marks the value of the population mean age of college students. The right panel displays a histogram of the distribution of sample means for 1000 sample means.
