The Ismail Samani Mausoleum (892 to 943) in Bukhara is a beautiful example of the ample possibilities of brickwork. The decoration is realised by only arranging bricks, some centuries before the use of glazed tiles.
Another beautiful Bukhara example of decoration by arranging bricks is the Kaylon minaret, the only remaining part of the mosque from 1127 and one of the few pre-Mongol monuments that survived the conquests of Gjenghis Khan.
