Create a Tangent to a Circle Through a Given Point Outside the Circle

1) Use the Segment tool[icon]/images/ggb/toolbar/mode_segment.png[/icon] to connect the center of the circle to the point outside the circle.[br]2) Find the midpoint of that line segment (remember that you find the midpoint by bisecting the segment).[br]3) Use the Compass tool[icon]/images/ggb/toolbar/mode_compasses.png[/icon] to create a circle centered at that midpoint with a radius equal to the distance from that midpoint to the center of the circle.[br]4) Use the Intersect tool[icon]/images/ggb/toolbar/mode_intersect.png[/icon] to mark the point where the new circle and the original circle intersect.[br]5) Use the Line tool[icon]/images/ggb/toolbar/mode_join.png[/icon] to draw a line through that intersection point and the original point outside of the circle.[br]6) Use the Segment tool[icon]/images/ggb/toolbar/mode_segment.png[/icon] to connect the point created in step 4 with the center of the original circle.[br]7) Use the Angle Measure tool[icon]/images/ggb/toolbar/mode_angle.png[/icon] to verify that the line created in step 5 is a tangent.
