Geometry: Reflections

Welcome to Reflections!
In this activity you will be exploring reflections of shapes across the x-axis and y-axis. Use the tools to help you complete this activity. Enjoy!
Here you will only be able to drag points A, B, and C around the coordinate plane. If you want to refresh your exploration, click the circular arrows in the upper right corner of the coordinate plane.
1. What do you notice about the points A' , B', and C' as you are moving points A, B and C?
2. What is the line of reflection?
Reflection Across the X-Axis[br]Explore the behavior of the shape and its vertices when the Reflection line is the X-Axis.
Use the "Slide me!" tool to help you see what happens to shapes and their vertices as they get reflected.
Use this interactive activity to help you solve Questions #3 and #4.
3. If the point D was moved to (-6,4), what would be the coordinates for point D'? (hint* first check the boxes for additional support)
4. If point B is moved to (-2,0), what is true about point B'?
Reflection Across the Y-Axis[br]Explore the behavior of the shape and its vertices when the Reflection line is the Y-Axis.
Use the "Slide me!" tool to help you see what happens to the shape and its vertices it gets reflected.
Use this interactive activity to help you with Questions #5 & #6
5. What is the coordinate for the point I?
6. What do you notice about their x and y?
Reflect: Do do you think you can use the tools to help you find the Coordinate Rule for reflections across the X and Y axis for ANY shape? Share your thoughts with your partner.
