Shows a polynomial curve (order 5), with the option to display a tangent for a moveable point, then a segment between two points. This enables the student to observe how the gradient of the segment approaches that of the tangent as the two points become closer together.
Also includes the option to show the gradient function (a polynomial of order 4) in the background to enable students to visualise the effect of the changing gradient and appreciate why differentiating 'simplifies' the polynomial function.
