Absolute Value Exploration

Students use the provided GeoGebra sketch to analyze the graph of absolute value. The point of the activity is for students to discover the affects of the parameters a, h, and k on the graph of f(x) = abs(x). Students will explore this concept through the use of sliders and "graph matching." The associated worksheet for this applet (at the top of the page at www.padlet.com/wall/brumbaughalgebraii) has students document their findings and make conclusions on the affects of the parameters. There is also a focus on finding the "starting point" or "vertex" of the absolute value graph, as well as determining the domain and range of an absolute value function.
