Investigating Square Root Functions

In this applet, students can learn how the parameters (i.e., a, h, and k) affect the shape of a square root function's graph. Students will be able to learn how multiplying a square root function by a constant, adding/subtracting beneath the radical, and/or adding/subtracting outside the radical change the shape of the square root parent function. Once students have determined what each parameter controls, students can test their skills by trying to match a graph using sliders to eight different predefined graphs. Students should actively make predictions about the equation of each graph (Graphs A through H), and then use the sliders to verify their predictions.
