The trace on the perpendicular bisectors of various points results in the conics forming right before the students' eyes. I get them to name the conic and locate its important features, like the foci etc. For a real challenge, ask them to explain why the conics show up when we trace perpendicular bisectors in this way. And then please tell me because I have no idea!
