Survival: Probability vs. Odds

If p=probability of survival and O=odds of survival, what is the relationship between p and O? [math]O=\frac{p}{1-p}[/math] and [math]p=\frac{O}{1+O}[/math] Does the student understand the relationship? Can he translate the math equations into sentences?
