Correlation as the Mean of Rectangle Areas

Take the points A, B, and C as vertices of a triangle. Form rectangles using each triangle vertex and the centroid as opposite vertices and the sides parallel to the coordinate axes. Standardizing the coordinates translates the centroid to the origin. The average of the signed areas of these rectangles is the correlation.
