I use this on problems in Calculus involving rates of change with a sliding ladder. There are also some Geometry problems in my book that involve a sliding ladder. I also like to just ask kids what path a person would follow when standing on a sliding ladder and see if they can figure out what it would be before seeing the "trace" of the point on the ladder.
