Batalla Naval - Reconociendo ejes de coordenadas

This proposal is presented as a game, with the objective of learning easily and fast the relationship between the coordinates of a point and the flat plane. The Navy Battle is a poplar game that everyone can play. In this case, instead of having letters and numbers, numbers are used, but the row ones will be “x” and the vertical ones will be “y”. Too much explanation is not necessary and the pupils are allowed to play as many times as they want to, because at the end of each round, the enemies are moving to another place. Learning objectives Allowing pupils to: • Identify the points as a link between the abscissa and ordinate. • Locate the points on a flat plane It is really attractive for little kids, because they think that they are just playing and not learning math. Furthermore, it is easy to understand, and the best thing is that it is a constructive way of learning, because while they are playing, they are building up a new concept. Lesson planning: a) Give short instructions about the game. b) Let the pupils play as much as they want. c) After a couple of rounds, have a class conclusion. Some advices: a) Explain the importance of downing the enemies by order. b) Ask them to make a table. The first column named “x” and the second “y”. And they should write down all the combinations they had tried. c) At the moment of the conclusion, construct on the blackboard a flat plane (just with the positive numbers) and mark some points. d) After everyone has understood the relation between the points and the flat plane it is a good moment to present relationship between daily things, for example time:distance.
