This applet allows you to explore the t-distribution by changing the degree of freedom, and comparing it with the Standard Normal distribution (Z). I have also included a visualization of the critical values under each distribution.
To explore the applet, drag the "df" slider to change the degree of freedom, and "alpha slider to change the value of alpha.
