Torque

Systems that are rotating must have somehow acquired that rotation. That may sound like an obvious thing to say, but we should ask how it happened. It is easy to show that having a force is not a sufficient condition to induce rotation. Further, it can easily be shown that there is no net force required to induce a rotation. Yet somehow forces must certainly be involved in the process of inducing a rotation. Let's discuss this.
