Adding numbers to 20

Short overview This applet is designed for students to learn and practice addition to 20 with the transition over ten (type 8 + 7). It can be used when introducing/teaching new mathematical calculations or when repetition. Also if you have options you can motivate students to use it for self-practice and repetition. Each number is displayed visually and it can be animated so that students can connect to the number and quantity. Applet is suited for touch screens and smart boards, because the result can be entered by pressing the appropriate button. Teachers notes You can use the applet in an introduction to the summation over the tens because it offers a graphical representation and animation of numbers. Clicking on the Help button second addend is set apart into two so that the first added is complemented to the ten. And all of this is illustrated with the model, animation and mathematical expression. If you click on the help button again it will hide it. If you do not want a picture just uncheck the checkbox picture. For an extra motivation and exercise, you can click on a checkbox time. The time is measured up to 10 correct answers. For every answer we have appropriate feedback text and a picture of smile :) or sad : (. Good luck. Learning objectives Visualize numbers and complement it to 10. Teaching approach Introduce the pupils with the adding numbers up to 20 with the transition over ten. Each task has its own visual display and animation. We can exclude or include help if necessary. Motivate students to individual practising and workout with the time game.
