I am currently a rising senior in high school. As one of the top mathematicians in my school, I constantly strive to improve its mathematical climate through both student teaching and individual tutoring in AP Calculus. A few years ago, to augment my teaching style, I wrote an AP Calculus conceptual grand review for my students to use as exam prep. Since writing this review and implementing it into my teachings, I have achieved a near-perfect pass rate out of roughly 30 people.
I took AP Calculus AB as a freshman and BC as a sophomore. On both exams, I received 5’s across the board. To maintain my level of mathematical expertise, I proceeded to independently study Multivariable Calculus. I have read both Larson’s Calculus, 8th ed. and Keisler’s Elementary Calculus: An Infinitesimal Approach and just started Apostol’s two-volume set Calculus. I have also begun foraging into the field of mathematical pedagogy, and I am planning to undertake a 12-week-long school study next year on whether a laboratory component in my school’s math curriculum will improve material retention over time.
